Temple Tour#3 The Three Temples in Hung Hom

Since I live in Hong Kong, why not I learn its culture. So I started the temple tour, however it has been stopped some time ago. I should complete something that I started.
Let's start with #20, The Kwun Yum Temple. The Kwun Yum Temple is the most famous among the great number of them in the territory. It was built in 1873. It is also famous for prosperity luck. The day I visited was near "Open Safe" day so there were lots of people. "Open Safe" day is the day the god will lend you money. What kind of system is that?!

I like to see winding incense and smell it. However, everyone was so serious about borrowing money and burn lots of incenses... it was too smoky to open my eyes! Well, money is important, I understand. A Long time ago, when workers here were digging in the hilly areas, red water spouted from the ground. It was rumoured that the vein of the dragon that inhabited in that area had been ruptured as a result of the work. The workers were frightened to continue with the road construction. Despite laboratory findings that the colour of the water was due to a mixture of underground deposits of sulphur and mercury, the workers were still worried and donated money to renovate the temple in the belief that Kwun Yum would be able to help them to avert any subsequent disaster (Chinese Temple Commitee).

Next is To Kwa Wan Tin Hau Temple. Cleaning work was in progress. It was built in 1885 by Hakka people who earned their living as fishermen.

It is a small temple, so probably it takes less than 10 minutes to see.

Next is Pak Tai Temple, Hok Un Kok. According to legend, Pak Tai was a prince of Shang Dynasty 3000 years ago and became a learned Taoist at a young age. His name came to the notice of the Taoist Primeval Deity who invited him to join the company of immortals.

According to the inscription on the incense burner, it was built in 1876 at a different place. However, due to urbanization, it was demolished. In 1929, the current temple was built here.

These 3 temples above are within walking distance. It took me a few hours while enjoying local food and local scenery.
